In my work for clients, I buy a lot of ads from a lot of different places.
Google does a pretty good job of maximizing the revenue flowing into their pockets.
If you don’t know what you’re doing, they charge you more.
Facebook, on the other hand, makes it pretty hard to give them money.
Apart from the lack of good metrics capabilities (please add some conversion tracking), there’s one thing on Facebook Ads that is pretty much a brick wall keeping advertisers from giving them money.
That thing is…
The Ad Approval Process
I’m not sure who Facebook hires to run the ad approval department, but my results there are anything but consistent.
About 80% of my ads get banned right from the getgo.
They’re usually slapped with a “Disapproved” label along with this little explanation:
This ad does not sufficiently represent the product or offer being advertised. Please make sure your ad text and destination page both include information that clearly and accurately represents the offer. Per sections 3, 13, and 14 of Facebook’s Advertising Guidelines, no ad may be deceptive about any offer that it makes. All prices and offers mentioned in the ad must accurately represent offers available on the site. All relevant details about the offer must be clearly reflected in the ad text. If an ad includes a price, discount, or ‘free’ offer, the advertisement must clearly state what action or set of actions is required to qualify for the offer. Please make the necessary changes to your ad so that it adheres to all of Facebook’s Advertising Guidelines if you choose to resubmit this ad.
Early on, I was a bit irked at getting rejected. And I actually went to the trouble of emailing them to get more information to make sure my ads followed their guidelines.
Eventually I got a response… a few weeks later… And the worst part is, it was an automated message.
Very helpful.
Facebook, why is it so hard to give you money?
The funny part about this is that apparently, the best way to get ads approved is to simply keep resubmitting them.
Some weeks, you can’t get anything approved. The next week, everything gets approved.
You submit the exact same ad enough and eventually someone approves it.
I have no idea why this is true, and I hope (for their own sake) they fix it, but until then, that’s the only solution I’ve found.
Resubmit. Resubmit. Resubmit.
Heck, I’ve even had ads get banned that had already been approved once.
I had to edit the ad to change a typo or something and then WHAMMO… Disapproved.
Anyone else have experience with this?
